Meet the Crescent City Creator

The Crescent City Creator and the Tree of Life in New Orleans, LA, March 2024

Hi! My name is Leanne Norden. I grew up in Altadena, north of Los Angeles along the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. I’ve been a nature enthusiast from a young age and I spent lots of time hiking on local trails and watching for wildlife with my family. Arts and crafts have been another important part of my life since youth. I’ve been exploring the world of pottery and ceramics ever since my first Introduction to Pottery class as a high school junior!

I called New Orleans Home from 2013-2020. I began my time there at Tulane University as an Ecology and Evolutionary Biology student. Although not my primary academic focus, ceramics was still an important part of my time in school. I continued to build my skills during a Hand Building and later a Throwing course in the Ceramics Department.

After graduation, I took a bit of a hiatus from making pottery. Fortunately I found the London Clayworks Community Studio where I was able to jump back into the clay world. In fall of 2019, I decided to start an Instagram account for my pottery pics and thus began Crescent City Creations.

Moving to New Orleans was a welcome culture shock. I loved the creative, vibrant energy of the city and the lush, urban jungle of greenery. I cherish the 7 wonderful, magic-filled, turbulent years I spent crafting, creating, celebrating, and costuming there.

In 2020, I moved to Portland, Oregon with my Partner and Cat. Soon after, I became a member of The Mud Room community ceramics studio. Now we live in SE Portland with our 4 Runner Ducks, basement studio, and summer veggie garden.

As a Creator and as an Artist, I am inspired by the Nature and Culture of the places I’ve called Home. Right now, most of my work is focused in ceramics but I am also an avid crochet, knitting, and textile artist!

A Word On Shipping

When you purchase a tangible item online, a cascade of events must occur before you hold that new item. Human labor, supplies, and transportation costs all are part of this items journey to your home. When you purchase an item from my store, I spend time to carefully package my handmade creations in a way that gives them the best chance of surviving transit and making it safely into your hands. I charge for shipping because I purchase shipping from a third party delivery service (usually USPS) to transport these creations to their new home.

Ceramics are inherently delicate and although I do my outmost best to ensure their safe arrival into your hands, there is always a risk of in-transit casualties. Should this occur, contact me and I will provide you a discount code for a new ceramic creation! Since most of my work is one-of-a-kind, I cannot guarantee an exact replica of your original purchase.

Live in the Portland area? Skip the hassle and cost of shipping by selecting “local pickup” as a shipping option at check out.

Thank you for understanding. Peace and love, The Crescent City Creator
